Andy’s Golden Grill: Swiss Chef Strikes Culinary Gold

Much has been said about Chef Andy Hunziker and his food. He started out a small garden grill restaurant in Cebu City back in the late 80s and gained quite the local following. Years later, the chef made his way to a new home here in Dumaguete City. The space is called Andy’s Golden Grill, which has much of his dishes from his old menu and a few new ones as well. I’ve heard friends say that his dishes were worth the trip to its location at Senor Sto. Nino Drive, Mangnao, so we decided to check it out ourselves.

Along with the rise of the Korean tourist population in the country is the fad over K-Pop Culture. But it seems to me that K-Pop is here to stay because the Filipinos have embraced their way of life in terms of fashion, communication, technology and most of all, food. Here in Dumaguete alone, Koreans have established themselves as the extended family of the City of Gentle People. And the best part of their stay is getting a taste of their cuisines that burst with flavor and that signature spiciness.

Café Mafioso: Good Grub for the Hungry Mob

One of my many guilty pleasures is ribs. It is what I look for in the menu of every new restaurant I go to. Lucky for me, most places in the city do serve their version of the dish. While loads of restaurants claim to have the best ribs in town, only a handful is actually worth coming back for. A couple of weeks back, my Instagram feed was flooded with photos of a hip new place downtown with a mafia-inspired dining concept. Café Mafioso piqued my curiosity after learning that they pride themselves of their “Mafioso Ribs”. After reading plenty of good reviews of the restaurant on social media, we decided to try it firsthand.
